Hi Guys,

Ive got a few questions about the intake systems available for a MPS3.

In the past when i have bought a new car/bike one the first things i do is put a k&N in
mainly because i new someone who made them and i got discount :thumbup
I couldnt say it imporved the performance but the only thing it did return was
a better MPG.

Now reading the forums here most of the guys appear to have replaced the intake
system all together. Could someone please explain the main benefits on this please,
i'm assuming its BHP?
How easy are they to fit?(im pretty tool friendly)
Im asuming it invalidates warranty?

Plus any other info would be good store in the grey matter

Andy

Standard intake is rather restrictive. So there are slight bhp gains. Really to make the most of the air flow you'll need to change the downpipe as well.
Fitting depends on which system you go for, whether you're just removing the airbox for a cone, or changing the intlet up to the turbo aswell, neither of which are difficult, just more time consuming for the latter.
Invalidate warrenty, I think so yes.
Most importantly is the noises it makes though :lol

:yeahthat but by only putting an Sri or cai on it will only invalidate the warrenty if the intake is the cause of the fault which it is unlikley to cause the fault, also check with your local dealer.

I hope to fit my corksport SRI at the weekend, i am a bit worried that i have to remove, battery, ecu etc to fit it, but i will have a go.

I hope it doesn't invalidate the warranty, as mazdatech said, he has worked on plenty of cars with mods which have still claimed under the warranty.

It will be interesting to seee the gains i get from fitting it :thumbup

Changing the intake is an easy job and takes 45mins tops if you have basic DIY skills. By doing so allows some more air to get into the engine (lean the mix slightly) - maybe some extra horses, better throttle response and better mpg depending on what type of intake you use. However, replacing the whole intake instead of just the cone is likely to cause your MAF in need of calibration!!

Next Month: OCC Install, Custom Exhaust System with 2nd CAT removed, Sanspeed map tweek!

You can't calibrate a MAF :confused

calibrate.... :scared

so if i add the corksport with inlet, what do i need to do? Is there a process i should follow?

or do i not bother with adding the inlet pipe and just add the MAF housig and filter?

MAF calibration can only be done using tuning sofware (remap)...... sorry I was not clear on this! My AEM intake caused problems with my airflow readings and the MAF table (volts) was tweeked to ensure the ECU was getting the correct info. If the ecu does not have an accurate reading of how much air is entering the system, it cannot possibly make any of its other settings correctly.

There is no big deal running with just an intake if you are not heavily modded even though it will probaly put your LTFT out a bit..... go for it, inlet and all !! :thumbup

A re-map, won't calibrate the MAF, it'll only send not receive data. :confused . I'm used to older cars where thew maf would have to be changed
